Event Name : Flora London Marathon
Description : Since 1981, once a year, London is invaded by a multitude of runners, who have come up Blackheat Common arrival at The Mall making a journey of about 42.2 kilometers. The race starts with the professional runners, followed by the rest of the participants. The origins of the marathon was due to the Olympic champion Chris Brasher, who after having participated in the marathon in New York in 1979, envisioned to run well in London and that could organize an event similar to the U.S., where social and cultural differences were less and all the men seemed just one big family, happy to share a similar experience. Along the route spectators incite and encourage the athletes, contributing to an exciting and healthy competition: the roads are even organized shows with music and artists to entertain the audience and to give the post to the runners. The competition becomes a big party to which the whole city is invited, an event that attracts every year more and more people, both athletes wishing to participate in both viewers - almost one million - that crowd the streets to admire a marathon through the places the symbol of the city to come up at Buckingham Palace. In 2009 the marathon will be held April 26. view the website
