The festival had over 1,800 shows last year, it attracts performers and audiences from across the world and is famous for the weird, wacky and original. The Fringe Society has a shop at 180 the Highstreet on the Royal Mile, which is open all year round selling merchandise, but the main festival occurs throughout the month of August. During the festival the upper High Street section of the Royal Mile becomes pedestrianised and is taken over by performers advertising their shows in the most outlandish and enterprising ways.
Whether you like comedy, drama, ground breaking new theatre, music, or musicals there is award winning theatre to suit everyone. The Fringe Festival began in 1947 when 8 groups of performers turned up to the official Edinburgh Festival uninvited. The following year the "Fringe Festival" was born and grew from strength to strength, creating an official programme in 1954 and a box office on the Royal Mile in 1955. In the mid 1950's a corporate identity was attached to the Fringe Festival and it has grown every year since then. |

Il Salone nautico di Londra è il più grande d'Europa, sono presenti centinaia di espositori con imbarcazioni e modelli da sogno. Oltre ai padiglioni coperti non c'è da perdersi la grande marina, un molo lungo un quarto di miglio che ospita 50 imbarcazioni di ogni tipo, dalle barche a vela di lusso agli yacht a motore, fino alle semplici barche da pesca.
Il salone nautico è anche un evento spettacolo: performance e competizioni per stuzzicare la vostra voglia di sport e mare, come un bacino indoor con pale giganti che creano venti a 30 nodi, dove si sfidano i mostri sacri del windsurf.

Dal 1981, una volta l'anno, Londra viene invasa da una moltitudine di corridori, che da Blackheat Common giungono fino all'arrivo a The Mall compiendo un percorso di circa 42,2 km. La corsa inizia con i maratoneti professionisti,seguiti poi dal resto dei partecipanti. Le origini della maratona si devono al campione olimpico Chris Brasher, che dopo aver partecipato alla maratona di New York nel 1979,immaginò di poter correr anche a Londra e che si potesse organizzare un evento simile a quello americano, dove le differenze sociali e culturali venivano meno e tutti gli uomini sembravano una sola grande famiglia, felice di condividere una simile esperienza. Lungo tutto il percorso gli spettatori incitano ed incoraggiano gli atleti, contribuendo ad un'atmosfera entusiasmante e di sana competizione: lungo le strade vengono addirittura organizzati spettacoli con musica ed artisti, per intrattenere gli spettatori e per dare la carica ai maratoneti. La competizione diviene così una grande festa a cui tutta la città è invitata, un appuntamento che attira di anno in anno sempre più persone, sia atleti desiderosi di partecipare sia spettatori - quasi un milione - che affollano le strade per ammirare una maratona che attraversa i luoghi simbolo della città per giungere fino a Buckingham Palace.
