Roberto Bono at Otley Courthouse |
|
| Description: |
I really like Roberto’s art – it’s so honest, innocent and direct, and the colour and form seem to just come directly from the image itself, without all sorts of stuff being projected or brought in from outside – it’s just like Roberto interacting with the light – or something really basic going on between the coloured light, his eyes, his hands and the coloured paint – but that light is so pure and mediterranean – how can he deal with the light and weather in Yorkshire?”
Anyway, that’s roughly the sort of thing I remember thinking, seeing the wonderful light, and the play of colour and form in what Roberto makes. I wish I could put it better – but really, the painting speaks for itself much better than anything I can say. I suppose I have a sense of the work being a kind of ‘meditation’ in front of a developing image and support (that’s what the French call the physical frame in which the painting is made – or for Roberto, perhaps, ‘occurs’)...
Bravo!

Edinburgh Fringe festival |
|
| Description: |
The festival had over 1,800 shows last year, it attracts performers and audiences from across the world and is famous for the weird, wacky and original. The Fringe Society has a shop at 180 the Highstreet on the Royal Mile, which is open all year round selling merchandise, but the main festival occurs throughout the month of August. During the festival the upper High Street section of the Royal Mile becomes pedestrianised and is taken over by performers advertising their shows in the most outlandish and enterprising ways.
Whether you like comedy, drama, ground breaking new theatre, music, or musicals there is award winning theatre to suit everyone. The Fringe Festival began in 1947 when 8 groups of performers turned up to the official Edinburgh Festival uninvited. The following year the "Fringe Festival" was born and grew from strength to strength, creating an official programme in 1954 and a box office on the Royal Mile in 1955. In the mid 1950's a corporate identity was attached to the Fringe Festival and it has grown every year since then.
With over 34,265 performances, 2,098 shows, 265 venues and thousands of publicists and agents and accredited media, the Fringe Press Office is your one central point of contact. We welcome and appreciate the enormous amount of interest and coverage our event and its artists attracts and accredit around 1,000 media; ecompassing journalists, reviewers and broadcast crews every year. |

The race starts with the professional runners, followed by the rest of the participants. The origins of the marathon was due to the Olympic champion Chris Brasher, who after having participated in the marathon in New York in 1979, envisioned to run well in London and that could organize an event similar to the U.S., where social and cultural differences were less and all the men seemed just one big family, happy to share a similar experience. Along the route spectators incite and encourage the athletes, contributing to an exciting and healthy competition: the roads are even organized shows with music and artists to entertain the audience and to give the post to the runners. In 2009 the marathon will be held April 26.
